The intelligence of a giant schnauzer makes him the perfect candidate for basic obedience classes and sports training. Since he wants to protect you and is territorial, socialization will be necessary as soon as you get it. Introduce him to all kinds of people, animals, places, sounds and things, all with positive associations for him. It is important to teach them to respect children and vice versa. Lastly, train him to bark only when required, as he can be upsetting to you and others.
